Forest Bathing in Ireland

Mindful Retreats in Nature's Heart

We're mitraabadimotor Limited, connecting retirees with Ireland's most restorative woodland experiences. Forest bathing isn't just walking — it's a practice of presence and healing through nature.

Our Foundation

How mitraabadimotor Limited Started

We began this journey in 2018 after seeing how many retirees felt disconnected from nature despite living surrounded by some of Europe's most beautiful forests. They'd visit the same parks year after year without really experiencing them — just walking paths without intention.

That's when we discovered forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku , the Japanese practice of immersing yourself in woodland environments. It's not exercise. It's not tourism. It's a deliberate, mindful engagement with nature that reduces stress, improves focus, and creates genuine wellbeing.

We've now guided over 2,000 retirees through Avondale Forest Park, Portumna's winding trails, and Gougane Barra's sacred woodlands. We don't just organize walks — we teach the practice, explain the science, and create spaces where people can actually slow down.

Our Methodology

We've developed a structured approach that combines traditional forest bathing with expert guidance, ensuring every visit leaves you genuinely transformed.

Guided Immersion

We're not tour guides. Our facilitators teach you to engage all five senses — listening to bird calls, observing light through leaves, feeling moss underfoot. Small groups ensure personal attention.

Science-Backed

Forest environments reduce cortisol levels and lower blood pressure within 20 minutes. We explain the biological benefits so you understand what's happening in your body and mind.

Location Expertise

We've spent years learning Avondale's 500 acres, Portumna's hidden clearings, and Gougane Barra's sacred spaces. You'll discover paths and perspectives other visitors miss.

Community Focus

Many participants join specifically to connect with others in the same life stage. We create space for meaningful conversation and lasting friendships to develop naturally.

Where We Work

Each location offers distinct character and benefits. We've chosen these three forests because they're genuinely restorative and accessible for retirees of all mobility levels.

Avondale Forest Park

Wicklow's oldest state forest with over 500 acres of mixed woodland. We love it for gentle terrain and incredible biodiversity. The River Avonmore runs through it, providing peaceful soundscapes. Most participants say Avondale feels like stepping back in time.

Portumna Forest Trails

Galway's hidden gem with trails ranging from easy strolls to moderate walks. The proximity to Portumna Castle adds historical context. We particularly appreciate the lakeside sections where you can observe wildlife without disturbance.

Gougane Barra Woodland

Cork's most sacred woodland, nestled in mountain scenery. Gougane Barra has spiritual significance — St. Finbarr's monastery sits at its heart. The combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage makes it uniquely transformative.

What We Stand For

mitraabadimotor Limited is built on principles that guide everything we do. We don't just facilitate retreats — we're protecting something precious and making it accessible.

Accessibility

We've worked with mobility specialists to ensure our routes suit everyone. You don't need to be athletic to experience forest bathing. We've adapted trails specifically for retirees.

Environmental Care

We're committed to leaving forests untouched. No damage, no noise pollution, no overcrowding. Small group sizes protect both participants and ecosystems.

Education

Understanding the "why" deepens the experience. We share forest ecology, wellness research, and cultural history. Knowledge transforms a walk into genuine practice.

Important Information

The content on this website is provided for informational and educational purposes regarding forest bathing practices and woodland experiences. While forest bathing is associated with wellness benefits supported by scientific research, individual experiences vary based on personal circumstances, physical condition, and mental health status. We're not medical professionals — if you have health concerns, always consult qualified healthcare providers before beginning new activities. Our guided experiences are designed for enjoyment and relaxation, not as treatment for medical conditions. Forest environments carry natural hazards; participants acknowledge these risks and take responsibility for their own safety during woodland activities.
